A quick comment from Keating

Today I think was a pretty decent day I really have not had the greatest time in Haiti, because I just cannot understand this Creole which makes it hard to understand the Haitians, but I want to be able to talk to them.

  1. I'm glad you're enjoying Haiti, Keating! Hang in there with the language..just being there, smiling your BIG smile and laughing your contagious laugh is enough for these kids. Love you, Aunti Jo

  2. Keating, I can only imagine how hard it must be with such a different language. What must it be like when immigrants come to our country and don't know any English? You will have a much better understanding of that than I! I pray you will make connections that go beyond words, and find yourself changed in wonderful ways.

  3. I love your honesty Keaton! Realizing how important language is will only make you that much more empathetic to those whom you meet that do not have a grasp of the English language. Keep trying!

  4. Hang in there, Keating. Read eyes and body language for now and fake it til you make it.
See if someone can teach you a few basic phrases, like "thank you" in French is "merci" pronounced "mare-SEE", and, "let's go" is "allons" pronounced "ah-LOAN". Don't forget, you've always had a winning smile. Don't be afraid to use it.
Remember when you were one, and I taught you your first words in the language of "New York"?
"Howyadoin" and "Fuhgeddaboudit". You picked those up really fast as I recall.
See you when you return ... Dad
